Ghost Notes is designed to keep your notes private. Everything is built around local-first security.
Summary
Your note content is stored locally on your device. Your notes are not sent to a cloud service by default. The app does not require an account to use. The app does not include ads or third-party tracking by design.
Information We Handle
Ghost Notes may handle the following information while you use the app:
- Note titles, note content, hints, and categories that you save locally
- Vault password data used to protect access to your notes
- Biometric authentication state handled by the operating system when you unlock or authorize actions
- App settings that control security and behavior, such as lock timing and screenshot blocking
How Your Data Is Stored
Your notes are encrypted before storage on the device. The app is built for local-first use, so the vault stays on your device unless you choose to export or transfer data yourself. Exported backups are encrypted locally before they are written, and imported backups are decrypted on your device after you select them.
How We Use Your Data
Ghost Notes uses your data only to provide app functionality, including:
- Creating and editing notes
- Unlocking the vault
- Copying, viewing, and deleting entries
- Applying security settings you choose
- Supporting secure import/export and backup workflows you initiate
Sharing and Disclosure
Ghost Notes does not sell your data.
Since the app stores content locally by default, your notes are not shared with third parties unless you manually export, copy, or otherwise transfer them yourself. Import and export happen through the system file picker so you stay in control of the backup file you choose.
Permissions and System Features
Ghost Notes may use device features and system permissions such as:
- Biometrics: Used for authentication and security
- Screenshot blocking: Supported on compatible platforms for added privacy
- System file picker: Used when you import or export encrypted backup files
Data Retention
Your notes remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app. If you export your data, any exported copy is controlled by you.
Children's Privacy
Ghost Notes is not intended for children under 13.
